Right so as many of you may know, I was volunteering at a dog kennels in Ayrshire, where is Ayrshire? Ayrshire is where me and Kimmi used to stay, Kimmi is actually from Ayrshire fun fact. See picture
The red is Dalkeith (where I stay now and green is Irvine where I used to live
Now as many of you may know I want to become a dog trainer, I love dogs and want my career to be with dogs, I want to get rid of this Pop culture dominance crap that has plagued our TVs, books, Internet that you have to be rough and tough with a dog in order to get the dog to obey.
So I study as much as I can, simply by going to the park reading dogs body language, researching online about dog body language, and speaking to people on dog forums, at the park and even dog groomers. So I know a bit about dogs, well a lot really. I wanted to get experience being around dogs
So I thought why not volunteer, I get no money but the experience I will get is amazing, I'm working with border collies, Great Danes, Jack Russell, west highland terriers, labs... Hyper dogs, angry, sad, nervous, anxious dogs... So I called the part owner of the dog kennel in Ayrshire. And explained what I was looking to get from volunteering. She asked if I could come to her home/kennels. I did so. I have a free bus pass and I thought hey why not
We got talking and let's say staff member 28 (her age) was with the part owner. They basically interviewed me and I described how I felt a dog should be raised and trained and approached. They liked what they heard and said welcome aboard...
So basically my job was to interact around the kennel dogs, play, walk and be a friend. I had no problem with this, I was my so called own boss, I tourney up whenever I wanted and how long I wanted for.
It would take me 1h40 minutes on a bus to get there. But once again free bus pass.... So I'd go and walk the dogs then after the third day things changed. It was Steven can you do this, Steven can you walk my dogs? Steven can you WASH plates? First of all only a select few get to call me Steven, second I wasn't there to wash plates or walk your dog. I was there to walk the border collies who were desperate to get out.
The problem was Kimmi was concerned. She called me a free dog walker/butler... I didn't mind being a free dog walker to the dogs who were getting paid for but not the staffs dogs... I got asked to feed horses... I opened the barn door and didn't shut it properly they escaped lol!! And I got asked to help feed sheep?! !?....
The problem was they.. Didn't have a boss. I was free labour, I couldn't complain if I felt I was taken the piss put off... And then everything with Mila happened... The idiot neighbours having party's till 11 am next day... I left, no warning I left... It felt good to actually work with the dogs and meet people. But I want this in a secure verbal contract. If I'm getting up at 9 am. To be there till 6 pm. I want a bit of respect.
You took advantage of me. Your loss. Shame on you.
Anyway tomorrow I will be going to the volunteer centre. And do things the right way. Never ever cold call and ask for volunteering positions! Do it through a company!!!!!
By the way the part owner said " I don't like taking on volunteers because I want to pay them I normally give them something..." I saw two staff being paid in front of me and never got a single dime, not even £5, 10 good job Stevie or a thank you. Again
Shame on you!!
Don't let this post put you off volunteering it is amazing! I loved it! And will be doing it again!!!
Bye for now
Fuckers
